Privacy Policy - Couplet App

Couplet is a mobile app for adults (18+) to connect with a partner and communicate privately. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect information when you use the Couplet app and related services (the "Service").

1) Information we collect

A. Information you provide

Account information: email address and login method (e.g., Sign in with Apple or email).
Profile information (optional): display name or other profile details you choose to add.
Pairing information: pairing status and the connection between paired partners in the app.
Chat content: messages you send and receive in the app.
Photos and videos (if enabled): media you choose to send in chat.
Support communications: messages you send to support and any information you include.

Sensitive content note: The Service may involve intimate conversations. Please only share content you are comfortable storing and transmitting online.

B. Information collected automatically

Device and app info: device model, operating system version, app version, language, time zone, and IP address.
Usage data: how you interact with the app (for example, screens viewed, feature usage, timestamps).
Diagnostics: crash reports and performance data.

C. Purchases and subscriptions

Subscriptions are processed by the Apple App Store and/or Google Play. We receive information needed to provide access, such as subscription status, product identifiers, and purchase/renewal timing. We do not receive your full payment card details.

2) Where your data is stored

We use Firebase (Google) to store and transmit Service data, such as account information, pairing data, chat messages, and (if enabled) photos/videos shared in chat.

3) How we use information

We use information to:

Provide the Service (account login, pairing, messaging, media delivery).
Operate and improve the Service (analytics, debugging, fixing crashes).
Maintain safety and security (prevent abuse, enforce policies, investigate reports).
Provide customer support.
Verify subscriptions and access.
Advertising measurement and optimization (if enabled), including measuring ad performance (such as installs, trials, and purchases) and reducing ad fraud.

4) Legal bases (EEA/UK users)

When GDPR applies, we process personal data on these bases, depending on the context:

Contract (to provide the Service you request, such as pairing and chat).
Legitimate interests (service improvement, security, fraud prevention).
Consent (where required, such as certain advertising-related processing on iOS via ATT; see below).

5) Advertising and App Tracking Transparency (iOS)

If enabled, Couplet uses the Meta (Facebook) SDK for advertising measurement and campaign optimization.

On iOS, where Apple requires it, we request permission via App Tracking Transparency (ATT) before accessing the device advertising identifier (IDFA) or performing tracking as defined by Apple.

If you allow tracking, we may use IDFA and related signals to measure and optimize ad campaigns.
If you do not allow tracking, we do not access IDFA and we limit certain advertising measurement features accordingly.

You can change your choice anytime in iOS settings.

6) How we share information

We do not sell your personal information.

We share information only as needed to run the Service:

A. With your paired partner

If you are paired, your chat messages (and photos/videos, if enabled) are shared with your paired partner by design. Your partner may view, save, or store that content on their device.

B. With service providers

We use service providers that process data on our behalf, including:

Google Firebase (data storage and app infrastructure; and optionally analytics/diagnostics)
Meta (Facebook) SDK (advertising measurement and optimization, if enabled)

C. For legal and safety reasons

We may disclose information if we believe it is reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect users, prevent abuse/fraud, or enforce our Terms and policies.

7) User-generated content, reporting, and blocking

Couplet supports user-generated content (messages and possibly media). We may use a combination of user reporting, automated checks, and manual review where appropriate to address abuse or illegal content.

8) Data retention

We keep information only as long as necessary for:

providing the Service,
maintaining security and preventing abuse,
complying with legal obligations,
resolving disputes and enforcing agreements.

In general:

Account data is retained until you delete your account.
Chat and media are retained to provide messaging and sync, and are handled as part of account deletion (see next section).
Diagnostics/analytics are retained for limited periods based on tool settings.

9) Account deletion and your choices

You can delete your account in the app. When you do, we delete (or anonymize) your account information and associated Service data from our active systems within a reasonable time, unless we must keep certain information for legal obligations or legitimate security purposes (for example, fraud prevention).

Some information may persist in encrypted backups for a limited period before being overwritten.

10) Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11) Children's privacy

Couplet is intended for users 18 years or older and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has used the Service, contact support@couplet.love.

12) International data transfers

Your information may be processed in countries other than where you live (for example, where our service providers operate). Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

13) Links to other sites

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, and we are not responsible for them.

14) Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version and revise the effective date.
